Woo Hoo! Gili Ponies Vet Clinic is happening again!
The 6 month long wait is almost over for the Gili Island Ponies!
The Love Heal Animals team are on our way to the Gili Islands!! - along with a dedicated amazing group of Australian Veterinarians and Farriers who will arrive on Gili Trawangan for the Clinic this coming week!!
We expect a large amount of ponies will be brought to the clinic and much needed Medical attention will be administered, along with Dental checks and most important hoof care provided by the Australian Farriers.
Love Heal Animals team is so grateful for the opportunity to be travelling to the Gili Islands, and we will be helping out at the clinic wherever we can.
Vitamin injections will be given to all the ponies that visit the clinic, and each pony will be wormed. Many will have wounds or rubs (caused by ill-fitting harnesses) that will require care (cleaning wounds and applying creams) ; and as a result of the heat and humidity some of the ponies suffer from awful skin infections.
The ponies will be checked out for dental care and many of the ponies teeth will need rasping. The farriers will check their feet and many will receive new properly fitting shoes.
Just like the human population there is a large divide in the living conditions between ponies, (especially working ponies) living in the developing world and what we are used to seeing in Australia, UK, Europe and the USA.
On the Gili Islands, cars and motorised traffic is prohibited on the islands by local ordinance, so the preferred method of transportation is by foot and bicycle or the horse-drawn carriage called a cidomo.
There are approximately 400 working ponies on the islands, providing transport for the tourists, movement of incoming goods, transportation of building materials and the removal of all rubbish.
This work we are involved with is so important for these hardworking ponies lives - Please help us help the ponies by taking action and Donating to the ‘Healing Gili Ponies’ project.
We Can’t Do It Without YOU!
